During my first year on YouTube the most important and amazing thing that I discovered was the wonderful ladies of the Nail Polish Community. I have made some wonderful friends this past year. Some have YouTube Channels of their own, others are subscribers – we all have one thing in common: our love of nail polish.
It became clear quite early on that I wanted to share some of my most loved nail polishes with some of these ladies, but there is a major hurdle standing in our way … The CAA.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is a government statutory authority in each country that oversees the approval and regulation of civil aviation. Basically they say what can and cannot be flown on an aircraft (among other things). If an item has been deemed a ‘dangerous good’, there are restrictions against it being put on an aircraft. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, nail polish was put into this category.
The funny thing is – if I wanted to, I could fly to the United Kingdom on vacation, fill up my suitcase full of nail polish, and fly home. But if I wanted to ship that same nail polish from the UK to Canada, I wouldn’t be able to. A bit hypocritical, no?
My dear friend, Clare Gray, has made it her mission to have the CAA review and possibly overturn the ruling on nail polish. If you are anything like me and love to sent Nail Mail to your friends around the globe, I beg you to please sign the petition that Clare has started. At the time of writing this blog post, there are already 688 signatures on this petition. Clare has also posted a video on her YouTube Channel that explains what she would like to accomplish with this petition. Since I cannot ship Nail Mail to my dear friend, I have had to find ‘Ninja’ methods in order to get nail polish to her. My mother was visiting my grandmother at Easter, I had her mail a package once she landed in the UK in order to get around the restrictions. I’ve also had nail polish shipped directly to her from a UK Indie brand. I should not have to jump through such hoops to send little bottles of paint to my friend. It’s absolutely ludicrous that I can take nail polish on an aircraft in a suitcase, but I cannot send it through the mail where it will ultimately end up on the same or a similar aircraft.
